Azimut Yachts was founded in 1969 in Turin, Italy, by Paolo Vitelli. In the early days of the company, it only operated a boat charter service, but it soon expanded to importing and selling large luxury yachts. By the mid-1970s, Azimut was designing and producing its own yachts, which quickly gained recognition in Italy and throughout Europe.
In 1985, Azimut acquired the historic Benetti shipyard, which gave it the capacity to build superyachts. Today, the Azimut|Benetti Group remains one of the world's leading luxury yacht building groups. The core philosophy of the brand is to preserve the beauty of Italian artistry while constantly incorporating advanced technology and modern engineering.
Azimut has several production plants in Italy, located in Avigliana (near Turin), Viareggio, Livorno and Fano. The Avigliana factory is Azimut's main production base, specialising in the development and manufacture of small and medium-sized luxury yachts, while the facilities in Viareggio and Livorno are used for the manufacture of large, custom-built superyachts. All production lines are managed with high standards of processes, equipped with modern equipment and adhere to a high degree of consistency in the choice of materials and workmanship.
There is a dedicated in-house R&D team responsible for material testing, hydrodynamic simulation, acoustic noise reduction and energy saving systems. Through a centralised production scheduling system, Azimut has optimised the process from design, manufacturing to delivery, ensuring the quality and delivery of each vessel.
Azimut has long cooperated with a number of internationally renowned industrial designers and architects, including Stefano Righini and Achille Salvagni. This crossover design model makes Azimut's yachts have distinctive aesthetic characteristics in addition to functionality. The exterior curves of the hull and the lighting and textures of the interior spaces reflect a high degree of finish.
On a technical level, Azimut was one of the first yacht manufacturers to introduce carbon fibre construction. This innovation effectively reduces the weight of the hull and increases stability and speed. The brand has also extensively adopted hybrid propulsion systems, intelligent energy management systems and automatic navigation aids to enhance sailing efficiency and safety.
Azimut currently offers five main product lines: Flybridge, S, Grande, Magellano and Verve.
The Flybridge series emphasises a spacious and comfortable living space, suitable for families or private holidays.
The S series pursues streamlined design and sporty performance, catering to owners with high demands for speed and manoeuvrability.
The Grande Series is the brand's superyacht line, focusing on customisation, spaciousness and luxury, as well as long-distance sailing capabilities.
The Magellano series is aimed at ocean-going users and features high stability and range for exploratory journeys.
The Verve series is Azimut's small, high-speed yachts for the Americas market, flexible and sporty for coastal cruising.
Each series is finely polished according to the target market and usage scenarios, and maintains a highly consistent brand tone in terms of detail design and configuration selection.
Against the backdrop of the yachting industry's gradual focus on sustainable development, Azimut is advancing environmental initiatives in a number of areas. In addition to the use of carbon fibre to reduce material usage, the brand has also introduced hybrid technology in the powertrain. Exhaust gas reprocessing systems, improved anti-fouling bilge paints and low-energy lighting solutions have also been integrated into the latest models to reduce their impact on the marine ecosystem.
In addition, Azimut is involved in a number of international environmental initiatives in support of marine plastics governance and clean energy ship programmes. The company says it will achieve a significant reduction in the carbon footprint of its full range of products by 2030.
Azimut's target customers are mainly high-net-worth individuals, including entrepreneurs, investors, doctors, lawyers, film and television practitioners, etc. They have high expectations for quality of life. They generally have high requirements for quality of life and regard yachts as an extension of their personal style and life philosophy. Azimut not only provides customised options during the purchase process, but also arranges dedicated staff to coordinate design, delivery and after-sales services to ensure a smooth customer experience.
With a brand culture that emphasises the original spirit of ‘Made in Italy’ and the fusion of artistry, technology and practicality, Azimut has built a stable community of yacht users by organising customer events and sailing gatherings around the world. In this community, customers not only share their sailing experience, but also provide product suggestions and lifestyle insights.
Azimut has a distribution network and service centres in more than 70 countries around the world, with its core markets covering Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region. In recent years, the brand has performed particularly well in emerging markets such as China, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore. In Asia, where high-end consumption is growing rapidly, Azimut is becoming a highly recognisable brand in the industry.
Unlike many of its competitors, Azimut adopts a relatively restrained style of marketing, focusing more on word-of-mouth and user communication of the product itself. This strategy makes the brand image more reliable, but also won a high repurchase rate and customer loyalty.
Azimut Yachts represents the continuous innovation of Italian manufacturing in the field of luxury goods. From design to engineering, from service to experience, the brand is always centred on the core values of ‘beauty and technology’. Its success lies not only in the manufacture of sophisticated boats, but also in the construction of a lifestyle with cultural thickness and real value.
