Sunreef Yachts is redefining luxury yachting by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) across design, production, and onboard experiences. CEO Nicolas Lapp emphasizes that AI is no longer limited to yacht systems—it’s embedded in recruitment, accounting, legal work, and more, streamlining operations while enhancing human decision-making.
In design, AI creates realistic renders and virtual tours, helping clients visualize their custom yachts before construction. It also inspires new concepts, such as spa layouts, which are implemented directly into real vessels. On the production floor, machine-learning systems monitor workflows, optimize material placement, and identify inefficiencies, complementing Sunreef’s lean manufacturing approach.
AI extends to preventive maintenance and energy management onboard. By learning from past service data, AI advises captains on filter checks, spare parts, and energy usage, ensuring smooth, stress-free operation. Semi–solid-state batteries and Solar Skin 3.0 technology improve efficiency, while smart systems automatically adjust lighting and air-conditioning for comfort and sustainability.
Sunreef’s boldest innovation is its path toward self-sailing catamarans. Custom wing sails require minimal handling and, combined with AI route optimization, bring autonomous sailing closer to reality. Hydrofoil technology in models like the Ultima 55 enhances speed, stability, and fuel efficiency, effectively allowing boats to “fly” above the water.
Sustainability remains central: teak is replaced with thermally modified wood, furniture uses plant-based leathers and linen fibers, and recycled PET foam replaces plywood. Each material improves comfort, reduces energy use, and aligns with eco-friendly design principles.
By merging AI, automation, and environmentally responsible technology, Sunreef Yachts is establishing a new standard for luxury multihulls—smart, sustainable, and ready for the next generation of eco-conscious sailors.
