A severe industrial fire in Storebro has been extinguished, but significant structural damage continues to pose serious safety concerns, with authorities warning of a potential roof collapse at the affected facility.
The fire broke out in a warehouse in Storebro on Sunday, sending thick smoke across the surrounding area. Emergency services responded quickly and successfully contained the blaze. Responsibility for the site has since been handed over to the property owner. However, two days after the incident, the full extent of the damage remains unknown.
According to site manager Roger Karlsson, access to the building has been prohibited due to structural instability. Police have cordoned off the area, preventing employees and management from entering the premises.
“The roof has burned, and the internal ceiling structure sits much lower than the outer roof,” Karlsson explained. “Between them are damaged roof trusses and burned structural elements. There is a real risk that the entire interior ceiling could collapse.”
Concerns escalated when a smoldering fire was discovered inside the same building a day after the main blaze was extinguished. Fire crews were called back to carry out post-extinguishment operations to eliminate remaining hotspots.
Employees have since monitored the site from outside the restricted zone, observing smoke through windows but unable to safely access the structure.
Among the assets stored in the warehouse are hull molds used for boat production at a nearby factory facility. If damaged, these molds could significantly impact manufacturing operations and future delivery schedules.
Authorities continue to assess the situation as safety inspections remain ongoing.
