New Zealand Chiefs Win 37th America's Cup

The America's Cup has a long history, 170 years. As the most influential and prestigious of all sailing events, it ranks alongside the Olympic Games, the World Cup of Soccer and Formula One as “the four most influential traditional sporting events in the world”. Considered the pinnacle of the sport since 1851, the race is based on a seven-win system, whereby the first team to win seven races’ scores seven points to win the America's Cup.

This year's America's Cup in Barcelona was successfully held from August 22 to October 19, 2024, over 59 days and attracted 2.56 million spectators. As one of the top events in international sports, the America's Cup once again demonstrated its unrivaled charm and influence.

The 37th America's Cup came to an end after a fierce battle, with New Zealand's Emirates Team winning the 37th Louis Vuitton America's Cup with a 37-second lead after battling record challenger INEOS Britannia in Barcelona, not only setting a new record, but also making it the only team in America's Cup history to have won the Cup three times.

I am extremely proud of our achievement,” said skipper Peter Burling. The America's Cup is undoubtedly one of the most difficult sporting trophies in the world to win. It's really not easy to put together the many factors that go into making it work well and the fact that we have managed to do it three times in a row is really special.”

He also mentioned skipper Ben Ainslie and the INEOS Britannia team, “I think they present a great challenge and constantly motivate us. Obviously we've made significant progress up the leaderboard, but every race feels like a real struggle and they're fantastic opponents.”

INEOS Britannia also achieved a major accomplishment by successfully winning the Louis Vuitton Cup, becoming the first British bidding team since 1964.
