Italian shipbuilder Rossinavi has launched a new 43-meter catamaran concept called Solsea. Capable of completing 80% of the transatlantic voyage in all-electric mode, the yacht marks a new step for Rossinavi following its first multihull project, the 42.8-meter Seawolf X.

Solsea yacht

Solsea was designed by world-renowned product designer Yves Béhar in conjunction with the team, marking Yves Béhar's first foray into yacht design, and Béhar was also the keynote speaker at this year's Superyacht Design Festival, Béhar said, “As an active ocean explorer for the past 40 years, I have sailed on every continent, As an active ocean explorer for the past 40 years, I have sailed, kited and surfed on every continent, contributing to marine conservation programs, and my deep respect for the ocean is reflected in every aspect of the design.”

Solsea includes battery and solar panel systems that are said to reduce operating costs by 80% when sailing and eliminate them completely in winter. In addition to this, Solsea features an integrated office area, living space and a private deck connecting the two hulls. The dining area features a marine-inspired ceramic chandelier and customized dining chairs.

The design of the catamaran's two hulls was a challenge for the shipyard, as some areas of the catamaran would have looked cluttered and there wasn't enough space to accommodate a beach club. The solution the shipbuilder came up with was to install a full-width hydraulic rear door so that the hulls and stairs could be closed off while the Solsea was in transit; and when the boat was anchored, the door could be turned into a platform for water sports and other sea activities.

The catamaran also has an interesting design: the pool cover can be used not only for shade, but also as a solar surface. The cover lifts up when the boat is stationary and lowers when the boat is moving.

The yacht's sun deck is also flexible, allowing for a variety of dining and relaxation arrangements. The top deck is equipped with integrated sun loungers and a continuous wooden bar leading to a “viewing lounge”. According to the shipbuilder, all facilities and controls are available to the owner via an app.

Béhar concludes, “Solsea was designed for owners who love to explore the ocean, participate in sea sports and sail long distances without refueling. She returns to a simpler, more respectful approach to the sea.”

Officially delivered to her owner in August 2024, 'Seawolf X' is said to have made her debut at this year's Monaco Yacht Show, where the yacht's interior was also revealed for the first time.
