Hanse Yachts has always insisted on the concept of ‘breaking the rules and leading the fashion’, and in 1993, the first Hanse 291 sailboat was launched on the market, which caused a great sensation in the yachting industry. Its successful launch opened a new era in the sailing industry. The boat had all the characteristics of a racing boat and was equipped with the first single-handed Hanse ‘Automatic Foreshore Changer System’.

The ‘Yacht Centre Greifswald’, founded in 1990 by the world sailing legend Michael Schmidt, was the predecessor of Hanse Yachts. The Hanse Union, with its many colleges and universities, has been building boats for hundreds of years and is now a mecca for the shipbuilding industry. The proximity to the Baltic Sea means that every boat is tested at sea, and in the summer of 1993, Michael Schmidt acquired the patent for the Aphrodite 291 from the famous Swedish design company, Karl Bayer, thus starting the road to success for Hanse Yachts. In the autumn of that year, the Aphrodite 291, once again optimised, became known as the Hanse 291 and made its debut at the Hamburg International Boat Show in Germany. 1994 saw the successful launch of the Hanse 331. Over the next four years, Hanse's innovations were not short-lived: in 1998, the Hanse 292 won the ‘European Boat of the Year’ award.

Hanse Yachts continued its tradition of ‘innovative design’ and in 1997 launched the first 40-foot Hanse 401 sailing yacht. It features an unprecedented interior design that resembles a cosy villa at sea. Based on the concept of ‘personalisation’, Hans became the first manufacturer in the world to introduce individual requirements into sailing yacht construction. At the same time, Hanse continues to be at the forefront of this field: you can customise your own personalised sailing yacht with your own choice of cabin layouts, colours, woods and materials. Put all your ideas into the interior, lighting and other details as if you were a professional yacht designer.

Functional design has been the distinctive personality of Hanse yachts from the very first sailing yacht. The brand's yachts are characterised by modern elegance and a strict adherence to the principle of ‘form follows function’, eliminating the discrepancy between structural features and individual requirements.
