Amels Launches Largest Dutch Superyacht Project Tanzanite

Amels has reached a major milestone with the launch of Tanzanite, a 120-meter fully custom superyacht that now enters her final outfitting phase at the shipyard’s facilities in Vlissingen, the Netherlands. Scheduled for delivery in 2026, Tanzanite will become the largest yacht ever completed by the Dutch builder, marking a defining moment in Amels’ history of large yacht construction.

Arrival and Build Progress

The project began taking shape in Dutch waters in June 2023, when Tanzanite arrived in Vlissingen following the launch of her hull at Damen Yachting’s Galati shipyard in Romania. With a gross tonnage of 6,083 GT, the yacht represents the most ambitious and complex build ever undertaken by Amels.

Following her recent float-out inside the covered dock, Tanzanite has officially moved into the final stage of construction. From this point forward, more than 1,000 skilled craftsmen and women from Damen Yachting and its global supplier network will focus on outfitting, systems integration, and finishing works, bringing the project closer to completion.

Exterior Design by Espen Øino

The exterior styling of Tanzanite is the work of renowned Norwegian designer Espen Øino. Her profile is defined by a classic clipper bow and a five-deck superstructure, creating a balanced and commanding silhouette on the water.

Expansive teak decks and a white hull accented by a black boot stripe reinforce the yacht’s clean and timeless appearance. Large, continuous windows span multiple decks, strengthening the visual and physical connection between interior spaces and the surrounding sea.

Outdoor amenities are a key highlight of the design. Tanzanite features two helipads as well as two swimming pools. The main deck pool acts as a central social area, while a second pool on the bridge deck offers a more private and relaxed environment. Generous deck spaces are arranged for open-air dining, lounging, and uninterrupted sea views.

Interior by Zuretti Design

The yacht’s interiors have been developed by Zuretti Design, with early details pointing to an elegant and refined atmosphere. Warm honey-toned finishes are paired with extensive use of marble, creating a calm and sophisticated onboard environment.

A defining interior feature is the sweeping marble staircase that wraps around a glass elevator, forming a dramatic vertical centerpiece running through the yacht. Natural light plays a major role throughout the interior, enhanced by full-height windows and a glass-bottomed swimming pool that channels daylight down into the beach club below.

Accommodation is arranged for up to 22 guests across 11 suites, supported by a professional crew of 44, ensuring both comfort and operational efficiency on a yacht of this scale.

Performance and Propulsion

Tanzanite is powered by a diesel-electric propulsion system fitted with Kongsberg Elegance® pod drives. This configuration delivers a top speed of 18 knots while prioritizing low noise and vibration levels, smooth maneuverability, and improved onboard comfort.

The propulsion choice reflects Amels’ broader focus on efficiency, sustainability, and next-generation yacht technologies, particularly in the upper segment of the custom superyacht market.

Beyond Tanzanite: Amels Limited Editions

While Tanzanite represents a one-off flagship project, Amels continues to strengthen its presence through the Limited Editions range. According to YachtBuyer Market Watch, the world’s largest yacht database, the Amels 80 and Amels 60 are currently two of the most prominent models in the shipyard’s order book.

The Amels 80, the flagship of the Limited Editions lineup, measures 80 meters with a volume of 2,175 GT. Built on a steel hull with an aluminum superstructure, the yacht introduces a fast-displacement platform optimized for efficiency. With a top speed of 16 knots and a range of up to 5,000 nautical miles, the Amels 80 offers long-range capability combined with generous interior volumes for 14 guests across seven cabins. Since its launch, the model has received multiple industry awards.

The Amels 60, designed by Espen Øino, follows the successful Amels 180 with a more contemporary profile and 830 GT of internal volume. Equipped with hybrid propulsion, the yacht allows silent cruising at speeds of up to 7 knots on electric power alone. The tri-deck layout accommodates 12 guests in six cabins, including an owner’s suite with a folding balcony, along with space for 13 crew. Features such as a touch-and-go helipad, a 9-meter tender, and an expansive sun deck emphasize the model’s versatility for extended cruising.

Strengthening Amels’ Position

With Tanzanite progressing steadily toward her 2026 delivery and the Amels 80 and 60 reinforcing the Limited Editions portfolio, Amels continues to balance full-custom flagship projects with proven series production. Together, these programs underline the Dutch builder’s position at the forefr
