Fifth Amels 80 Hybrid Superyacht Hits the Water

Damen Yachting has announced the successful hull launch of the fifth 79.8-metre Amels 80 superyacht at its shipyard in Galati, Romania. Following the launch, the yacht will be transported to Damen Yachting’s facility in Vlissingen, the Netherlands, where she will undergo the next phase of outfitting ahead of her scheduled delivery in 2027.

The fifth hull continues the proven formula of the Amels Limited Editions 80 series, combining exterior design by Espen Øino International with a fully customised interior by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design. Naval architecture is developed in-house by Damen Yachting, reflecting the shipyard’s long-standing experience in large steel yacht construction.

With an internal volume of 2,175 gross tonnes, the Amels 80 offers generous accommodation for up to 14 guests across seven staterooms, supported by a professional crew of 20, including the captain. The layout has been conceived to balance private ownership with potential charter use, a defining characteristic of the Limited Editions concept.

One of the yacht’s most notable features is her expansive 200-square-metre sundeck, placing her among the largest in her class. Additional highlights include a dedicated owner’s deck, a 6.5-metre swimming pool and a three-sided open beach club that enhances the connection between onboard living spaces and the sea.

Propulsion is provided by a hybrid power system paired with an optimised hull design. According to Damen Yachting, this configuration delivers tangible operational benefits, including reduced fuel consumption, lower emissions and improved efficiency across a range of operating profiles. Rob Luijendijk, Commercial Director at Damen Yachting, noted that the hybrid system not only supports environmental goals but also contributes to lower operating costs and protects the yacht’s long-term value, describing it as “intelligent yacht ownership for the modern era.”

The launch of the fifth Amels 80 further underscores the sustained demand for large, semi-custom steel superyachts in the 80-metre segment. As she progresses into outfitting in the Netherlands, the yacht represents another milestone for the Amels 80 series, reinforcing its position as one of the most established and commercially successful platforms in its class.
