Celebrating 40 Years of Pershing: Sports Yacht Legacy & Future Revealed

Marking its 40th anniversary, Pershing continues to stand at the forefront of the sports yacht sector, blending extreme performance, bold design and unmistakable Italian flair. Since the debut of the Pershing 45 in 1985, the brand has consistently challenged convention—creating yachts that deliver speed, comfort and emotion in equal measure.

“The ‘P’ in Pershing stands for Performance, Power and Passion,” says Ferretti Group CEO Alberto Galassi. “Pershing is about beauty, technology and pure emotion. It’s why the brand appeals to owners of all ages, from seasoned yachtsmen to a new generation drawn by speed and style.”

The Pershing 45 set the tone from the outset. Designed by Fulvio De Simoni, it combined cutting-edge aesthetics, thrilling performance and surprising comfort, including three cabins—an unprecedented layout at the time. Its impact was immediate, attracting high-profile owners such as Piero Ferrari and Formula One driver Michele Alboreto, and establishing Pershing’s reputation as the “Ferrari of the seas.”

Over the decades, Pershing has defined a distinctive design language built around aggressive lines, long foredecks and features that visually express motion. Innovations such as pillar-free windscreens, signature side wings and the bold introduction of silver hulls helped shape modern sports yacht aesthetics. As designer Michelangelo Vallicelli notes, “Performance for Pershing isn’t just speed—it’s the idea of movement.”

Technical innovation has remained central to the brand’s evolution, from early adoption of surface-piercing propellers to experimental propulsion systems and extensive use of lightweight materials. This philosophy culminated in the 2019 launch of the Pershing 140, the brand’s first aluminium-hulled yacht and its entry into the superyacht arena. At 43 metres, it introduced features such as a raised wheelhouse, a main-deck owner’s suite and a three-sided opening beach club.

Today, Pershing’s future is defined by two key ranges. Generation X focuses on ultra-high performance, delivering aggressive styling and speeds approaching 50 knots. The newer GTX range introduces the concept of the “Sport Utility Yacht,” offering increased volume and liveability while retaining Pershing’s sporty DNA. Models like the award-winning GTX80 and the compact GTX70 reflect a shift toward more lifestyle-oriented cruising.
