At the end of December 2025, Fincantieri’s Muggiano shipyard in Italy officially handed over the KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321, the second multi-role combat ship (PPA), to the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL). This follows the earlier commissioning of its sister ship, KRI Brawijaya-320, completing the two-vessel program built by Fincantieri.
The handover ceremony was attended by top officials from both countries. Admiral Muhammad Ali, Chief of the Indonesian Navy, and Indonesian Ambassador to Italy H.E. Junimart Girsang represented Indonesia, while Italian Navy Chief Admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto joined on behalf of Italy. Fincantieri CEO Pierroberto Folgiero and Naval Vessels Division General Director Eugenio Santagata were present to mark the occasion.
The PPA multi-purpose ships are the largest and most advanced combat vessels in Indonesia’s fleet. Strategically significant in the Indo-Pacific, they support national security, maritime stability, and regional defense objectives.
Designed for flexibility, the KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 can carry out combat missions, maritime surveillance, search and rescue, and civilian protection operations. It is equipped with fast rigid-hull inflatable boats (RHIBs) that deploy via side cranes or a stern ramp, enabling rapid boarding, patrol, or emergency response.
The two-vessel program highlights Indonesia’s naval modernization and Fincantieri’s expertise in advanced surface combatants. With sensors, communication systems, and versatile mission capabilities, these ships enhance the Navy’s readiness across a wide range of maritime scenarios.
With both ships now in service, the Indonesian Navy gains a significant boost in operational capability, combining speed, firepower, and multi-mission adaptability in a single, state-of-the-art platform.
