MAN Supplies Hybrid Drivetrain for Benetti's B.Neos Yacht

Italian shipyard Benetti has unveiled its latest 40-metre motor yacht, the B.Neos, featuring a hybrid propulsion system as standard—a first for the brand.

The yacht is powered by the MAN Smart HYBRID Experience, supplied exclusively by MAN Engines. This cutting-edge system combines two MAN V8-900 diesel engines (662 kW each) with two 200 kW electric motors, delivering flexible performance while meeting IMO Tier III emission standards through MAN’s SCR technology.

“Together with MAN Engines, we implemented a hybrid concept seamlessly integrated into the B.Neos architecture, setting a new technical benchmark,” said Alessandro Rossi, Benetti CTO.

The hybrid setup offers multiple operating modes, a key factor for owners exploring greener propulsion. Battery-electric mode allows silent, emission-free cruising or extended hotel mode at anchor, ideal for sensitive ports and bays. For longer journeys, cross-over hybrid operation optimally coordinates diesel engines, generators, and electric motors, enhancing efficiency, range, and onboard comfort.

According to MAN Engines, the system ensures reliable, smooth, and efficient cruising, while maintaining the flexibility owners expect from a hybrid yacht. Extensive testing validated performance across all operational modes.

The collaboration between Benetti and MAN also focused on software integration and customer-specific adaptations. “The MAN Smart HYBRID Experience provides robust software architecture and a seamless interface with the B.Neos platform, fully tailored to owner requirements,” said Reiner Roessner, Head of Sales, MAN Engines.

The launch of the B.Neos positions Benetti at the forefront of eco-luxury yachting, combining high-performance engineering with quiet, low-emission cruising. With hybrid propulsion now standard, the B.Neos sets a precedent for the next generation of environmentally conscious motor yachts.
