The Storebro Grand Series 62 is a rare Swedish flybridge motor yacht built by Storebro Royal Cruisers. Produced as part of the company's Grand Series, the model is believed to have been limited to around four completed yachts, making it one of the rarest modern Storebro models.
Individual yachts were built with different propulsion packages, including Scania V8 shaft-drive and MAN V10 waterjet configurations, so specifications vary between hulls.
The model recently drew international attention after a Storebro 62 was identified in reports about a yacht fire near Hvaler, Norway, on 1 July 2026.
Why Is the Storebro 62 Receiving Attention in Norway?
The Storebro Grand Series 62 drew renewed attention after a yacht fire near Hvaler, Norway, on 1 July 2026.According to Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet, emergency services responded after the 62-foot motor yacht caught fire while underway. The person on board safely abandoned the vessel with assistance from nearby boaters, and no injuries were reported.
Later that evening, police confirmed that the yacht had sunk despite firefighting efforts. Norwegian media subsequently identified the vessel as a Storebro Grand Series 62, while the cause of the fire remained under investigation.
What Is the Storebro Grand Series 62?
The Storebro Grand Series 62 is a luxury 62-foot flybridge motor yacht developed by Swedish yacht builder Storebro Royal Cruisers, one of Scandinavia's best-known premium boat manufacturers.Storebro has built cruising yachts since the mid-20th century and is recognized for combining handcrafted interiors with seaworthy hull designs intended for Northern European waters. Rather than emphasizing maximum speed, the company traditionally focused on:
- Comfortable long-distance cruising
- Excellent build quality
- Quiet operation
- Practical Scandinavian layouts
- Four-season capability
Typical features include:
- Raised flybridge with excellent visibility
- Spacious aft deck
- Full-beam owner's cabin
- High-quality teak interior
- Large engine room for maintenance access
- CE-certified offshore cruising capability
Why Is the Storebro 62 So Rare?
The Storebro Grand Series 62 was never intended to be a high-volume production yacht. Instead, it was built in very limited numbers as the flagship of Storebro's Grand Series, making it one of the least common models ever produced by the Swedish builder.Available production records, historical brokerage listings and long-time owner documentation indicate that only around four complete Storebro Grand Series 62 yachts were delivered. There is also evidence that a fifth hull and superstructure were built, but no publicly available records confirm that the project was completed and delivered as a finished yacht.
Unlike many production yachts of its era, the Grand Series 62 was not built to a single standard specification. Individual owners selected different propulsion systems and equipment packages, meaning surviving examples can vary considerably in both mechanical configuration and performance. Combined with the extremely limited production run, this makes every Storebro 62 a unique yacht in today's brokerage market.
Summary of Reasons
| Factor | Explanation |
| Very limited production | Historical records indicate that only around four complete yachts were delivered. |
| An unfinished fifth project | A fifth hull and superstructure are known to have existed, but no public records confirm that the yacht was completed or delivered. |
| Semi-custom construction | The completed yachts were finished with different layouts, propulsion systems and equipment, rather than a single factory specification. |
| Few resale opportunities | Because so few were built, Storebro 62 yachts rarely appear on the brokerage market. |
Storebro 62 Specifications

Storebro 62 Engines and Propulsion
One of the most interesting aspects of the Grand Series 62 is that there is no single engine specification.Known examples include two primary propulsion arrangements.
Twin Scania V8 + Conventional Shaft Drive
Some Storebro 62 yachts were equipped with twin Scania V8 marine diesel engines driving traditional propeller shafts.
Advantages include:
- Proven reliability
- Easier servicing
- Excellent fuel efficiency for displacement cruising
- Familiar drivetrain for most marine engineers
- Twin MAN V10 + Kamewa Waterjets
Potential benefits include:
- Improved maneuverability
- Reduced underwater appendages
- Better shallow-water operation
- Higher performance characteristics
How Much Does a Storebro 62 Cost?
There is no reliable fixed market price for the Storebro Grand Series 62, primarily because only a very small number of yachts were ever completed and publicly traded.Unlike widely produced motor yachts, where consistent brokerage data allows for clear pricing ranges, the Storebro 62 appears only occasionally on the second-hand market. As a result, valuations are highly case-specific and depend heavily on the condition, configuration, and refit history of each individual yacht.
When a Storebro 62 does appear for sale, pricing is typically influenced by factors such as:
- Engine and propulsion configuration
- Extent and quality of refits
- Overall mechanical condition and maintenance records
- Original build documentation and ownership history
- Onboard systems upgrades and modernization level
For this reason, professional valuation and full marine survey are essential before any purchase decision.
Is the Storebro Grand Series 62 Still Available?
The Storebro Grand Series 62 has never been produced as a standard mass-production model. It does still appear in Storebro’s official model information, but in practice the only way to acquire one today is through the second-hand market.
Because only a small number were ever completed, availability is rare and depends entirely on whether an existing owner decides to sell.
What to Check Before Buying a Storebro 62
Because the Storebro Grand Series 62 is so rare and each yacht can differ in configuration, the most important part of any purchase is not just finding issues, but understanding the full history of the individual vessel.A standard pre-purchase survey should focus on a few key areas.
Identity and documentation
Start by confirming the yacht’s identity and history. This includes the hull number, builder records, and ownership chain, all of which help verify that the vessel matches its documented specification.
Engines and propulsion
Check which propulsion setup the yacht is fitted with, as configurations vary between:
- Twin Scania V8 shaft-drive systems
- Twin MAN V10 waterjet systems
Electrical and onboard systems
Many yachts of this age have undergone multiple upgrades over time. The key is to look at the quality of those modifications and whether they were carried out to a professional standard.
Fuel and safety systems
Fuel tanks, lines, and filters should be inspected for age-related wear, while fire suppression and emergency shutdown systems deserve close attention given the importance of onboard safety systems on offshore-capable yachts.
Refits and modifications
No two Storebro 62 yachts are exactly the same, so understanding what has been changed is essential. This includes mechanical upgrades, interior refits, navigation electronics, and any structural work carried out over the yacht’s lifetime.
Final survey
A full out-of-water survey by an experienced marine surveyor is essential. On a yacht of this rarity, it is often the only way to get a clear picture of its real condition beyond paperwork and presentation.
